Ale review: Squashed, brains craft brewery

In a departure from normal procedure, this ale review features a picture of the brewery itself, taken from the 7th floor room of my Cardiff hotel whilst on a business trip on a dingy day earlier this week. I know, I know, it’s all glamour over here.

The previous week, I was delighted to FINALLY find a pumpkin beer I found drinkable. It’s taken about 6 weeks.

Honestly, this is one of the strangest pints I’ve had in a while. My companion was put off by the quite intense vinegary scent of this beer, and I can understand why. However, this acidity was not at all present in the taste. This had a tang that was perfectly tempered with rich, fruity undertones, with a smooth and creamy texture to give a rounded finish. It sounds like I’m describing wine here, but it genuinely was that complex.

In my experience, best enjoyed standing outside a pub on a London street that looks like it’s straight out of Sherlock.
