Bar review: Omakase + Appreciate

Kuala Lumpur may be a long way to go for a cocktail. But if ever you’re in the neighbourhood, I suggest you give this place a try.

Concealed behind a hidden door a few steps down from the street, Omakase feels suitable secret and secluded. Inside, stools line the L-shaped bar. The menu is split into two sections to allow you to select which bartender’s signature concoctions you want to try.

For my second drink I ordered a classic off-menu, my usual test of a new place. They passed with flying colours; my Rob Roy was perfect.

The music was low and jazzy and the staff were sharply dressed. This place could just as easily be in Berlin, London or Stockholm. As it stands, it’s one of old KL’s (incredibly well hidden) gems.
