Bar review: 214 Bermondsey
Sometimes it’s hard to find a gin cocktail with the wow factor. For me, they often run the risk of watering down the spirit in the case of the long drinks, or entirely screwing up a classic in the case of the straight up and short.
214 Bermondsey is different. They know their juniper here.
The menu is beautifully presented and full of innovative drinks as well as classics. The section about tasting notes of each gin on the menu is particularly helpful, enabling you to become an expert as you sip at your G+T made with the bar’s very own brewed tonic.
The music tends to learn to electro swing, which is just fine by me. That said, the place is a country mile less pretentious than the speakeasy-style bars cropping up all over town, despite being nestled under an Italian restaurant and not even visable from the street.
The happy hour is especially good value, and lasts all night on Sunday.
