Cocktail recipe – Saffron Hilliard

This is the gin lover’s Manhattan.

I found a recipe for a drink called ‘Hilliard Cocktail’ online and decided to try it with my new saffron gin. I stirred two shots of it with half a shot of sweet vermouth and a few dashes of Peychauds bitters.

The aroma of the red vermouth and the slight smokiness of the saffron flavours made this quite reminiscent of a sweet or perfect Manhattan. The initial sweetness, the bitter notes and the spice-filled aftertaste worked very well together, I’ll certainly be trying this again.
