Gin review: Saffron gin

This was a birthday present, and frankly, it’s stunning.

I was a little apprehensive about a gin from a French drinks company, but I’ve had a few of their other spirits like the triple sec, and always found them top notch for high street stuff. This was purchased from Davys Wine Vaults here in Greenwich, which can always be relied upon for good value premium spirits, including lots of interesting stuff that you won’t see in your local supermarket.

It has a sweetness, but not in that rich back-of-palate and juniper-heavy kind of way. It’s more subtle than that. The aroma is ‘dark’, but the taste is light and intense simultaneously. The first drink of this I had was simply over ice. I didn’t even have the heart to add a twist of lemon, it was perfect as it was.
