Beer review: Union Lager at the greenwich union

This Meantime Brewery 4.9% lager was the ideal beer for sitting outside on a mild winter’s day. A nice subtle bitterness, more refreshing and crisp than an ale, more warming and rich than the classic London Lager.

Normally I’m all about the Yakima Red, but variety is the spice of life, so on my latest visit to the Greenwich Union I decided to try something new.

This is a cosy little pub that is far enough away from the Cutty Sark to retain something of a local charm. Though it has to be said that on some days I notice throngs of tourists who have no doubt read that it’s a great place to go to sample much of the Meantime range. The beer garden is even nicer in winter than in summer. At night, there’s overhead heaters and coloured lights, making for a cosy atmosphere.
