Wine review – Coteaux des Baronnies
My Rhone phase continues with Coteaux des Baronnies – actually located to the edge of the Rhone valley, and often overlooked because of its neighbour.
This is a great choice if you’re looking for big, deep flavours. There’s an intense blackberry nose and a hint of spice – sorry if you’re veggie, but this wine is crying out to be had with a robust duck or beef dish.
There’s a lot more going on with this wine than others I’ve had from the region. An initial palate that’s a little like the sweetness of sherry, but also with a background vinegary-ness (yes, I’m shamelessly making up words now). Felt a little like all the good things about Old World wines, with a few gimmicks of New thrown in.
